Volunteer with the DC Gators on International Gator Day 2009

Posted by DCGators on April 24th, 2009

The DC Gator Club is sponsoring a UF/USO care package stuffing party on Saturday, May 16th in support of International Gator Day. Last year we had a super event, stuffing 5,000 care packages to be sent to our deployed men and women.

The event starts at Ft. Belvoir at 9 a.m. sharp. (Directions to the USO warehouse at Ft. Belvoir will be emailed to all participants). We expect the event to run until about 1 p.m.

All participants need to bring is the Volunteer Pass (which again will be emailed to participants the week before) for their car. This pass will get you through the gate. The USO will have all the care package ingredients ready for us to stuff. Please wear shorts, closed toe shoes, and T-shirts (It tends to get a bit warm and you move around a lot) and Gator gear if you can.

Pizza and soft drinks will be provided and Gator give-aways will be available for all participants.

We need everyone to RSVP by May 1st, as we do have a limited number of spots available. Please send your RSVP to Emily Jurey at ejurey4@gmail.com. We’re looking forward to a great event! More info at www.dcgators.com

    Gator Football Team in DC

Posted by DCGators on April 22nd, 2009

    DC Gators,

As many of you are already aware the football team is visiting DC on Thursday. Unlike 1997 and 2007 when President Clinton and President Bush hosted the team, the White House has chosen to not make the event public. This is the response I got from the White House on Monday.

“This year, the NCAA event has changed a bit from previous years. The component of the event with Members of Congress and any additional attendees (such as your alumni folks) will not take place at the White House. The only event taking place at the WH is a brief photo op with the team with no audience…”

I am currently working with UF Athletic Association, the White House, Speaker Pelosi’s office and UFAA to gain attendance for DC Gators to one of the events or to create another event that will be open to all of us Gators.

As SOON as I know ANYTHING, I will make you all aware of that information. In the meantime, if you could pass this info to interested Gators, I would appreciate it. As you can imagine, we have been inundated with requests to attend the event and right now we have no way to fill those requests.

    Many thanks

    Go Gators!
